Nursery Online - Latest News
Woo-hoo! It’s summer!

The kids are breaking up for their summer holidays. The sun is shining (at least it is here as I write!). Time to relax! Holidays!

Somehow September seems a long way away. Then it will be Autumn; the nights will be drawing in; it will be getting colder! A long time away.

Sorry to disillusion you but there are only eight weeks until Kind + Jugend! OK, if you are simply visiting (you are, aren't you?), it's just flights and hotels (though the best were booked out ages ago).

However, if you are exhibiting (or worse still thinking about it) there really isn't much time. Of course, getting your stand sorted takes priority as graphics need to be designed and printed, electrics sorted and transport booked.

As a result, other things get overlooked. I've seen some exhibitors frantically sorting things out at the last minute, and breathe a sigh of relief that it was 'all done' before the show opened.

Was it 'all done'? Was there not more to be done? The most overlooked essential is pre-show publicity. I know I say this before every show but somehow, many exhibitors still need to be told. You need to tell visitors about yourself and your products before the show. Otherwise how will they know to visit you? You may get the odd buyer who diligently searches out exhibitors, but most buyers will be rushing around trying to see their essential suppliers in their limited time. They will walk past your stand without a second glance.

A little thought (and a few £s) can make a BIG difference.

Why don't you give it a try?

- Cathy

iCandy designers curate a new Capsule Collection of MiChair colours

Demonstrating its position as a trend setter in the nursery world, iCandy has introduced four new colourways to the iconic iCandy MiChair: Flint, Russet, Marine and Pearl.

Carefully curated by the iCandy in-house design team, this selection of timeless shades is inspired by colour palettes dominating contemporary fashion runways.

Proving once again that baby essentials can look beautiful in the home, the iCandy MiChair is a masterpiece of stylish functionality. Recognised globally for its modern minimalism, the iCandy MiChair is an investment worthy piece of furniture designed to grow with the family.

The coloured cushions not only complement modern interiors but also meet the functional demands of modern parents thanks to the option to machine wash the seat pad and wipe clean the back-rest pad.

The contemporary shades add sophisticated accents of colour to the sustainably sourced Beech and Birch FSC plywood chair back and optional rocking chair skis whilst the iconic chrome frame is synonymous with iCandy’s modern style. The choice of renewable materials goes hand in hand with the philosophy of evolution behind the iCandy MiChair and its long-lasting design which enables parents to embrace sustainable eco friendly living.

Suitable from birth, the iCandy Newborn Pod redefines the traditional baby rocker and provides two lockable height positions; one for rest and one for play, all the while complementing any minimalist space. The detachable toy bar gives the option for parents to stimulate baby with a toy design of their choice offering further flexibility when it comes to accessorising a modern nursery. The iCandy Newborn Pod is also designed to dock onto the iCandy MiChair to bring baby to parent height whilst feeding and to enable easy and important interaction.

At weaning stage, the iCandy Newborn Pod can be easily removed so baby can enjoy the comfort of the iCandy MiChair seat complete with waist strap, footrest and removable tray. As baby grows and no longer needs a highchair, it is simply transformed into a sophisticated toddler chair or rocking chair that is suitable for up to the age of approximately six years. iCandy’s decision to make the rocking skis an optional purchase acknowledges the desire of parents to create their own bespoke MiChair with their choice of modular components. These modular components, that can be rearranged as and when needed, means that the iCandy MiChair is as space efficient as it is functional. With child and iCandy MiChair alike growing and changing, the neutral colours of the Comfort Pack will continue to prove their sense of timeless style.

Acclaimed for its seamless fusion of style and practicality, the iCandy MiChair is Good Housekeeping Institute Approved 2017 and was also crowned winner of the 2016 Smallish Design Awards as well as winner of ‘Product Design’ at the internationally acclaimed 2016 Red Dot Awards.

More than just a highchair, the iCandy MiChair is a beautiful piece of furniture that will become a key piece in a stylish home for many years to come. The epitome of effortless multifunctionality, the iCandy MiChair not only holds comfort, safety and ease of cleaning at its core for ultimate longevity but also boasts a sleek and modern design. With the freedom to choose their preferred colourway, parents can confidently maintain a contemporary and stylish home with the futureproof iCandy MiChair whilst raising the next generation.

Clifford Salter 1935 - 2019

It is with sadness that we report that Clifford Salter passed away last week after a short illness. He was 84.

Clifford started his life in the industry working in Salters, his father’s pram shop. In the late 1970’s he and Peter Daniel (of Daniels of Windsor) began to import cots from Italy. This led to the creation of Cosatto which at one point had 60% of the UK cot trade!! Cosatto also had the Swallow and Cumfifolda brands of prams and pushchairs. He was also instrumental in launching Graco to the UK consumer.

Following the tragic death of his son, Mark in 2002, Clifford sold Cosatto and retired a few years later.

Clifford was a stalwart of the nursery trade for more than 50 years and an important member of the BPA. Many of us older ones in the industry will remember Clifford and be grateful for the help and encouragement he gave us.

BABOCUSH - the newborn comfort cushion

Help, my baby hates tummy something uttered frequently by parents!

Many can relate to the challenge of wanting to give their baby that all-important, regular tummy time that is critical in order for babies to achieve their physical developmental milestones, without enduring tears and tantrums from an unhappy baby who is not accustomed to being face-down on the floor.

Enter award-winning babocush!

The comfort cushion helps prevent flat head syndrome and makes tummy time simple! The babocush strengthens the baby’s neck, back and trunk, as the baby is held in a very natural position, allowing their airways to relax and stay open as opposed to sitting slumped over in a bouncer or a car seat.

This positioning is also the reason why the babocush is being hailed by new-parents as a life saver, as it helps to reduce the symptoms of colic and reflux.

Through recreating the atmosphere in the womb with a heartbeat sound and gentle vibration, the babocush gently soothes colicky babies that need to be held upright, and gives parents the ability to get on with their day-to-day lives, with a content baby.

Baby care brand Cheeky Chompers launches crowdfund on Crowdcube

Award-winning baby care brand Cheeky Chompers launched its first crowdfunding campaign this week on equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.

The Edinburgh-headquartered company, who last year won a Queen’s Award for enterprise for in-ternational trade, plans to use the investment to further scale the business through new product de-velopment, direct sales growth and increased brand awareness in key markets.

Founders Julie Wilson and Amy Livingstone met when they were both on maternity leave with their first children. They launched Cheeky Chompers in 2013 with the Neckerchew, the world’s first chewable dribble bib with attached teether and now have nine multi-use baby products alongside a range of products for children and adults with oral sensory issues.

Cheeky Chompers products are now sold by over 1500 retailers in 49 countries, with the US, China and the UK representing the company’s largest markets. The overall global market for baby soothers and teethers forecast to reach nearly $8 billion by 2020. With over 31 distributors globally, exports by Cheeky Chompers account for approximately 65 per cent of total sales.

Founding director Julie Wilson said: “Our vision is to be one of the go-to brands worldwide for baby products and gifts and we’re excited to be sharing our vision and future successes with our loyal customers, supporters and the crowdfunding community. Innovation remains at our core, delivered with intuition, quality and style. We have a strong base from which to scale the business with an extensive international distribution network already in place. We are really excited about the next phase of growth.”

In February, Cheeky Chompers revealed it was experiencing a soar in sales in China via the company’s flagship online store on the platform, the world’s largest online e-commerce site; in addition to building a strong presence across China’s other leading retailers with over 250 stores stocking Cheeky Chompers products. Cheeky Chompers sells in major retailers including John Lewis, JoJo Mama Bebe, Tesco, Boots and Nordstrom. The brand has developed collaborative products with select retailers including Joules and The White Company and has a number of new national retailer wins in the pipeline.

Founding director Amy Livingstone said: “We have exciting new products in progress to expand our product range. This will feed our strong distribution channels. In addition, we will significantly drive digital growth and create even closer connections with our individual customers in order to grow the higher margin direct to consumer channel.”

Corporate finance boutique Quest Corporate and corporate advisory firm Full Circle Partners are both supporting Cheeky Chompers around the crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube.
