Nursery Online - Latest News
People buy from people!

How often have I heard this said in Sales training? And in many ways, it's true! I have heard comments such as 'I won't buy that brand because I don't like their salesman!'

If we like a certain person, it is only natural that we want to help them. In a work environment, that can mean we do business with them. If you've just spent an hour chatting happily with someone, it naturally makes agreeing to the terms of your business deal so much easier. Liking someone usually means you also trust them. You can't like someone you don't trust! Trust in business is vital.

Of course, it is not just the physical product that is important in a business relationship. A company that delivers when they say they will, will be favoured over a company that over promises and is unreliable. A smile and 'no problem, I'll sort it!' is always better than a surly 'well, it's your fault that...'

But we do need to be careful. Do we buy this brand because the rep is great fun? Or do we buy it because it is right for our customers? What if the brand that is right for our customers is sold by someone who just rubs us up the wrong way? What if the brand that will make us the most profit is sold by someone we don't trust?

I'm glad to say that in nursery we are generally pleasant and helpful to each other even when the other is competition, but do I see elements of 'nasty' creeping in?

Please tell me I'm wrong!

- Cathy

Sue Shirazi

It is with great sadness that we report that Sue Shirazi of Babycare Dagenham lost her fight against cancer on November 3rd.

Following an operation in August, Sue was diagnosed with a rare and unfortunately, aggressive cancer which she fought with her typical courage, tenacity and with incredible strength.

Anyone blessed to have been in her presence, knows that she truly epitomised what it was to be a human being – her compassion, selflessness, kindness and thoughtfulness was an inspiration to us all.

She left this world, exemplifying the bravery, strength and dignity that we saw every day. Her love for others was endless and although her friends, family and colleagues will sorely miss her, in her typical way, she asked us to try not to be sad but to be happy that she has moved on to a better place, where she will keep looking after us. She asked us to celebrate her life, stay united and be kind and generous to each other and all those around us.

A service will be held on Tuesday 13th November at 09:45.

Our thoughts are with Morris, Melody and Omid.

£1,500 cot has its own iPad

According to The Times, a company in Birmingham is producing £1,500 “Intelligent Cots” with built-in iPads, a product that has angered child psychologists.

Gary Taylor, owner of Babeek, created the cot after having trouble getting his daughter Graysie to sleep. He said he included an iPad to play white noise to her.

Gary Allen, a chartered educational psychologist, said the cot could be used to keep children occupied rather than receiving parental attention. He said: “Given the literature around screens, sleep and early attachment, creating a cot with an iPad is outrageous.”

Mr Taylor admitted the cot drew criticism when it was unveiled online with people questioning whether children so young should be exposed to technology. Mr Taylor said: “I know people put their kids in front of the TV in the morning, is that safe? I was thinking that if they could put it in the cot it could be a lot safer. Kids are stuck on their computers. That’s the way the generation is going. I’m giving people what they want.”

Ewan is still top of the flock! Iconic sleep aid takes top spot in national award

The team at SweetDreamers are thrilled to announce that their most recent launch, ewan Deluxe, has won Gold in the 2018 Made for Mums Awards.

The clever gadget secured the top spot in the category for best baby sleep-aid toy, confirming that this much-loved sheep is still top of the flock!

Having put hundreds of toys under the microscope the final list is a ‘who’s who’ of the very best toys. Industry experts, real parents and their children, as well as celebrity parents joined the Made for Mums judging panel to scrutinise all the shortlisted products. To make the final cut is a true reflection of just how popular the iconic sleep aid is, especially as this specific category gets more and more competitive.

It is really no surprise that the all new ewan deluxe was a hit with the judges, given his intelligent new features guarantee the whole family gets some sleep! What makes this member of the flock superior is the MoonMode smartCRY, a function that ensures ewan automatically activates when a baby stirs.

The new removable control pod is also a handy development enabling the famous sheep to be washed again and again!

Like the original and much-loved ewan the dream sheep, the upgraded model mimics the comfort of the womb. Using a soft pink glow and selection of soothing sounds, including an actual recording of a heartbeat and womb, ewan magically lull newborns and toddlers into a peaceful sleep. Each of the sounds are recorded at a low base frequency, similar to that experienced pre-birth and is combined with the recording of a resting heartbeat to help little ones settle.

Speaking about this exciting award win, Lynda Harding, Founder of SweetDreamers and the brains behind ewan said: “We are over the moon to have won a GOLD in this year’s Made for Mums Toy Awards. We are so proud of the recent developments to the original ewan, but to know this has been recognised in such an established and respected award is just great.

“To have taken the top spot for the best baby sleep-aid toy is amazing and shows that we are still a firm favourite among parents and their little ones.”

New premium Baby Kingdom brand is born in the UK

A new premium British baby toiletries brand has entered the UK market with products which are designed to assist in protecting and improving skin and hair, “leaving babies smelling like babies.”

Baby Kingdom offer parents a safe, luxurious and effective collection that ‘parents can trust putting on their new-born babies and toddlers’.

The range includes baby shampoo, 2-1 hair & body wash, body cream, nappy cream and talc free baby powder.

Manufactured and formulated in the UK, Baby Kingdom is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, vegan-friendly, 100 per cent recyclable and suitable for sensitive skin.

The products are 97-99% natural and free from sulphates, parabens and other harsh irritants. Ingredients include Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Nettle Extracts, Panthenol, Vitamin E, Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Castor Oil and Shea Butter.

Founded by Robbie Mukherjee and Caroline Ivory, the pair set up Baby Kingdom as they felt there was a ‘gap in the market’ for a premium natural alternative to the existing baby toiletries currently available.

Caroline Ivory, Branding Manager at Baby Kingdom, said: “We are very excited about launching Baby Kingdom to the UK market and global market. We appreciate, when choosing baby products, a parent’s first priority is safety; a safe product which they can trust. As parents ourselves we are passionate about using safe, natural and organic ingredients, and keeping the brand as clean as possible.

“The ethos of our brand is based in ‘babies smelling like babies’ and this has been carefully considered when handpicking a gentle fragrance. We understand babies’ skin is delicate and sensitive, which is why we have taken the extra steps to certify the brand as hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested whilst creating a beautiful, traditional baby scent.

“Whilst Baby Kingdom products are not a prescription medicine, parents may find them useful when treating symptoms such as cradle cap, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, nappy rash and dermatitis.”

Milton launch new eco-friendly baby bottle cleaner

Milton, the leading expert in sterilising, have launched its new Eco Friendly Baby Bottle Cleaner, a 100% biodegradable, plant-based cleaner designed to ensure thorough cleaning of babies feeding equipment before sterilising.

The new baby bottle cleaner is dermatologically tested and formulated for sensitive skin, making it kind to hands even after washing up multiple times per day.

The transparent gel is fragrance, colour and paraben free. It comes in a 500ml dispenser bottle with push and pull pump, releasing the a correct amount of liquid to create a foamy lather for cleaning a range of products, including babies’ bottles, teats, teethers, toys, breastpump components, breastfeeding accessories and family dishes.

All baby feeding equipment must be pre-cleaned to be sterilised effectively; milk often creates a white film on feeding equipment which can be difficult to remove especially around the rim of a bottle. If any milk residue is left on bottles, a dangerous breeding ground is created for bacteria growth.

Christine Chevalier, Brand Manager at Milton said “Parents are often worried that chemicals in washing up liquid can be harmful when used on baby feeding equipment and are concerned about the strong smell. Our new baby bottle cleaner alleviates these concerns with its 100% plant based active ingredients and fragrance free formula and it is 100% effective on removing milk residue. “

Milton products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Babies R Us, John Lewis, Kiddicare, Kiddisave, Mothercare, Ocado, Precious Little One’s, Sainsbury’s Superdrug, Tesco and many independent retailers, online stores and pharmacies.

The Baby bottle cleaner retails at £2.99 and is available from Boots, Ocado and specialist Baby stores. The packaging is 100% recyclable
